Opti Green Fleet Update
As a learner sailor you are a “green fleet sailor”. Green fleet is a safe learning environment where sailors learn racing skills. As sailors reach a higher competitive level they move to the “open fleet” where they are effective treated the same as adult competitive sailors.
This update is specifically geared to green fleet sailors.
If you have any questions or issues please call.
Sunday Coaching & Afternoon Club Racing: Sunday 9AM coaching for all where sailor progress from C1 to C2 to LTR (learn to race).
Sunday 12:45 Green fleet races are for sailors C2 and up. Sailors can learn a lot by sailing with better sailors.
Mid Week Twilight Racing Evenings: This is many short races run together so that sailors can practise starts. This has been going well and everyone is showing the benefit of spending some extra time in their boats under the guidance of our youth coaches. 4:30pm briefing for 5pm to 7pm races
REGATTAS: Recently our green fleet sailors have been in action ...
8 October Manly Junior regatta
There were 4 Optis from Wakatere in the Green fleet.
Brianna Reynolds-Smith finished a credible 2nd place in the Green fleet, and won the last race
14-16 October Murrays Bay 2011 Winter Champs
There were 74 boats sailing in the Open fleet and 26 in the Green fleet from all over New Zealand.
Wakatere had 14 sailors sailing in the Open fleet and 4 in the Green fleet.
In Green fleet Brianna Reynolds-Smith continued her good form with a 4th, finishing the regatta off with a win in the last race, repeating her pattern from last week. Donald Mayo rather surprised himself and was right behind her in 5th.
22 -24 October Napier North Island Champs 4 Green optis made their way down to Napier which is the location of the Next Worlds Optimists Champs from 1st Jan 2012. Conditions were very light favouring smaller sailors at times. There were 15 sailors in the Green fleet. Wakatere sailors did exceptionally well. Donald Mayo showed the way by getting 1st place overall and 1st under 12 yrs. Brianna Reynolds-Smith got 1st girl and 2nd under 12 yrs. Emily Dol got 2nd girl and 3rd under 12yrs. So 6 of the 15 awards went to Wakatere sailors.
